Condolence From: Paul Besnia

Condolence: My deepest condolences to Matt and family, and to all of us who loved Lilla.

Lilla and I were little more than casual acquaintances as undergraduates, but we became fast friends in graduate school. Such wonderful memories of Lilla, Dave Dalby and I practically joined at the hip for almost two years. But Lilla was always just a little bit ahead of us. She was so natural in her patience, her intelligence, and her grace.

We lost touch until somehow Matt picked me out of a jammed flight to London. Lilla and her children were also on that flight, and we shared a wonderful evening together.

We met only a few times after that, and I regret not staying in touch more, because it was always a joy to be with Lilla. We are all the poorer for her passing.

Condolence: Matt, Lauren and Nick,
There are no words that can adequately express my sympathies to you and your extended family. Lilla was my best friend and I never felt apart from her even though I am now in Florida 30 years. If I needed a laugh, wise counsel or encouragement, Lilla was the one to go to. From the moment we met in 1979 she has always had a special place in my life and heart. Lilla would always keep me up to date on how you were and even though I wasn't there in person I felt as though I watched Lauren and Nick grow up. The amazing adults that you have become are a testament to the character of your Mom and Dad. Your Mom was "the best" and I will miss her terribly. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. xoxoxo
